(79) Wonder Woman 1984 starts out strong with an electric opening act, stumbles its way through a messy mid-section, and pulls itself together for a heartfelt (if hammy) finale. Inconsistency is the story of the day: visually arresting frames are followed by immersion-breaking FX fails, the film starts to hit its stride – then changes pace. Thankfully, Gal Gadot’s towering presence and charisma shine through even the most disjointed segments, holding together a disheveled feature that still amounts to good fun.
