The Black Cauldron (1985)

The Black Cauldron (1985) (84) It’s been called a noble failure by many, but what interests me the most about The Black Cauldron is everything that it does right. In light of the crisis facing 21st century Disney animated features (produced outside the halls of Pixar), the film can be viewed as a high water mark for the synthesis of modern animation techniques and conventional hand-drawn work. Its downright gorgeous visuals and lighthearted charm help in keeping the viewer engaged throughout the run-time of this somewhat shaky fantasy adaptation.
