(85) It’s clear from the many striking moments and performances that Green Knight is a tale Lowery wanted to put on screen. What’s murkier is the film’s demonstration of its “why.” Having just watched The Assassin (another deliberately slow and methodical morality test), I should’ve been primed for Green Knight. Instead, I was struck by the contrasts. Where Assassin meticulously explored the scenery, setting, and characters of its world, some long takes and odd angles in Green Knight feel like they’re for the sake of themselves.
