(89) Matt Reeves offers up a very different version of the Bat we’ve seen before in this stylish, dark, and layered thriller. The complexity stemming from those layers does come at the cost of some pacing issues, and many of the artistic choices made here might have been sticking points if this were the only version of the character we’re being treated to currently. Thankfully, WB’s “try everything” approach means that all of these risks are just fun alternatives, leaving us to relish in this neo-noir dressed as superhero fare.
