Dawn of the Dead (2004) (82) Landing in ‘04, following the release of 28 Days Later, Zack Snyder’s take on Romero’s classic is essentially “what if fast zombies hit the mall from Dawn of the Dead?” James Gunn’s script wastes no time getting a new batch of human survivors into the shopping center, and an early subplot mirrors the events of Day of the Dead. For a remake, however, this Dawn creates genre tropes of its own, ensuring zombie films were here to stay in the 21st century.
