(72) With Detective Pikachu, the old adage that “all the best bits are in the trailer” rings true. Ryan Reynolds does a fair job of selling the titular Detective Pikachu (who is honestly the best aspect of the movie). The plot might have been salvaged with a few edits, but it could just as well have been tossed away. Justice Smith comes off flat while the picture as a whole registers as decent.
