(90) Obvious comparisons have been drawn between this picture and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Truthfully, the film shares a closer philosophical kinship with Andrei Tarkovsky’s Solaris, even recalling stories from Asimov’s I, Robot. It’s also a far more human story than Kubrick’s film. Moon, the brainchild of director Duncan Jones, is one of the most intellectually engaging sci-fi movies to be released in years. Just as psychologically jarring as titles like Dark City and eXistenZ but, because it doesn’t try to blow your mind, it manages to truly capture your imagination.
