(74) This film commits a sequel sin in beginning with scenes from the first – a sort of big-screen “previously on.” Roddy McDowell is sorely missed in this installment. His replacement is not only bad but distracting, and Franciscus looks too much like Heston to be considered anything but a substitute. Even so, Beneath recaptures the feel of the first in a way future sequels failed to, and its ending is among my all-time personal favorites.
