(93) I in no way mean to discredit Boyle’s last film, Slumdog Millionaire, when I say I like this one better. Slumdog was certainly good, and deserving of its Best Picture nod if not its win, but 127 Hours is downright triumphant. In fact – if it were my decision to make – I would give this picture top prize at this year’s Academy Awards, even over Black Swan, The Fighter, True Grit, and other heavy hitters. In a year with so many players offering their absolute best, Franco’s effort still ranks in the top tier.
