(70) Following the success of Jurassic Park, it’s hard to say what compelled Steven Spielberg to take the stronger of Michael Crichton’s memorable dinosaur novels and alter all but the cast and a few choice scenes. The Lost World feels like two screenplays haphazardly combined: The first half a modestly divergent Hollywood adaptation, the second an illogical afterthought – screenwriter David Koepp’s attempt to accommodate Spielberg’s childhood fantasy of recreating King Kong.
