(79) “A Jedi’s weapon deserves more respect,” we’re told, but the tales that preceded this apparently deserve less. Rise of Skywalker spends its opening act frantically cobbling its plot to elements from previous sequels. Abrams distracts us with glee-inducing fan service, peppered over flagrant disregard for the established logic of the franchise. Rise is the most haphazardly entertaining and blatantly condescending of the sequels. It’s a fair end to that trilogy, but hardly a fitting finale to the greater Saga.
