Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972)

(80) While the flashbacks used in early Apes sequels were cringeworthy, the overly-explanatory dialog Conquest replaces them with is a bit insulting. Once things get moving, though, there’s compelling social commentary aplenty, and the violence that eventually breaks out is hard to tear your eyes from. Conquest is grimmer than Rise (a loose remake), but not so dark as Dawn or War. At the very least, it’s the last of the original series that’s really worth watching for all but diehard fans.
